The International Jury, World Craft Council worked with leaders of Van Phuc ward, Ha Dong district on craft village development
According to Hanoi’s Department of Agriculture and Rural Development, in 2023, the city’s People’s Committee assigned the department to sign a Memorandum of Understanding with the World Craft Council. To implement this, in 2024, the department, following city directives, collaborated with the World Craft Council to recognize Hanoi’s craft villages as members of the Global Network of Creative Craft Cities.
During this visit, the international judging council of the World Craft Council came to Hanoi to assess and consider the recognition of several Hanoi craft villages as members of the Global Network of Creative Craft Cities.

Van Phuc silk village, in Ha Dong district, is one of Vietnam’s most famous silk weaving villages. This traditional silk weaving village has a history spanning over 1,000 years. Currently, the people of Van Phuc weave around 70 types of silk, satin, and brocade with various intricate designs known by names such as “băng hoa,” “long phượng,” “mây bay,” and “tứ quế.” Not only has the village preserved the craft, but Van Phuc silk village has also become a popular destination for both domestic and international tourists.

At the meeting, the judging council and other representatives received an overview of Hanoi’s craft villages and the Van Phuc silk weaving village. Following the conference, the representatives visited the Van Phuc Silk Preservation and Development Center, toured and met with artisans at Vun ART Cooperative, Trieu Van Mao Silk Weaving Establishment, and Van Phuc Silk Joint Stock Company, as well as met skilled weavers and artisans of Van Phuc village.
Prior to this, on October 21 and 22, the delegation conducted a survey in Bat Trang commune (Gia Lam district).
